On September 7, 2013, at the 125 IOC Session of the International Olympic Committee, Ms. Christel TAKIGAWA stated, " OMOTENASHI " and this word spread around the world. Ms. Christel TAKIGAWA took the stage as an ambassador to host the Olympics to Tokyo and introduced " O-MO-TE-NA-SHI “ of Japan" in French.
It is said this word has originated in the tea ceremony in the
Heian (From end of 8th to end of 12th century) and Muromachi (From 14th to 16th century) periods, and is a proud part of Japanese culture that has developed a spirit to care for guests and loved ones.
The word " OMOTENASHI " is a polite form of " MOTENASHI " with a prefix “ O ” and original meaning of "get things done". Another origin of the word " OMOTENASHI " is "No front nor back side" which means welcoming guests with a heart that is not with front or back.
